Reflection of Screenwriting

Reflection upon experiences as a writer/creator of a Web Series and Pilot Webisode
This past month I experienced what it was like to write a Web Series beginning with the first episode, the Pilot Webisode. This experience has helped me to have a better understanding of what it takes to write a screenplay. Some of these takeaways are simple but, they were things I didn’t know until recently, such as the proper introduction of characters. When a new character comes in you need to introduce them in all capital letters, age, and a brief description of appearance. My other take away is the rule of four lines of dialog to three lines of action and never let your character enter his head, unlike a book where you can enter the character’s heads and hear their thoughts.

How was this different from other writing experiences you’ve had?
This experience was different from my previous writing experiences through the format of the writing. As I mentioned in my reflection, my takeaways were proper character introductions and proper formatting of dialog and action. The reason is my previous experiences as a writer were more of just writing manuscripts for books, whereas this last month, I was required to learn new skills that allowed me to broaden my view as a writer.

How does this mesh with your goals as a writer?
My goal as a writer is to write books but, if I were ever approached or asked to turn one of my books into the screenplay format, I now have the knowledge and the ability to do so.

Could you see yourself doing this for a living… and, if so, what do you plan to do to make that a reality?
Right now, I cannot see myself doing this has a living because I am focused on finishing this master’s course, completing my novel, and taking care of other life tasks that requiring my attention. However, in the future, I can see myself writing a couple of screenplays. I would make this a reality by finding a manager who his willing to work with me and help me too further develop the script, and from there, we would be a team. Together we would bring the script to the producer and creative executive, and from there, we would proceed to the next steps in bringing the script to life on the screen.
